TAKS reflection - 7th period

Reflect on the Math TAKS test you just took.
How do you think you performed? What was the most difficult concept for you? Did you use any problem solving strategies (ie: guess and check, eliminating answer choices... etc.)? How much did you prepare yourself for this test? Did you study this past weekend? Is there anything you could have done differently to help you on this test?

  1. I think I did ok on the T.A.K.S. over all. I didn’t have a problem in any specific area of the T.A.K.S. test. I used guess and check. It worked out most of the time. I also eliminated answers I knew were wrong. I prepared for the test by doing practice tests on the computer and on paper. I studied a lot. I stayed up till 2 in the morning on Saturday to Sunday.

  2. I think I performed very well on the math TAKS test I just took. I probably only missed a couple questions. The most difficult concept for me was the percentage to fraction concept. I was never good at that, it confuses me. I did use problem solving strategies, including guess and check and eliminating answer choices. They helped me get a lot of answers that I couldn’t figure out. I didn’t really prepare for the test, other than just doing all my homework, paying attention in class, and taking notes. This weekend I did not study for the test, I kind of forgot it was on Monday and I didn’t have my notes. I could have studied, but I don’t think it would have made a difference, since I already knew what to do.

  3. I think I did pretty well on the math TAKS. I used guess and check on some of the problems I didn’t know how to do. I also eliminated answer choices on a few problems I wasn’t sure about. The most difficult concepts for me were probably the ones that we haven’t been taught yet. I also could have studied a little bit more and over the weekend too.

  4. Personally I think that the TAKS test was pretty hard, I did use a few strategies to help myself. On every question I narrowed it down to at least two so I could find my answer. I think I did well on the test, on some questions here and there I don’t feel very confident on them. I’d have to say the most difficult problems were the problems that we haven’t gone over in a long time, like hypotenuse and things like that. To prepare myself for the TAKS test I went online and did a practice math TAKS. If I was to do anything I would probably go over things from the beginning of the year, like the things I forgot. Overall I enjoyed my day and it went well.

  5. I think that I preformed pretty well on the Math TAKS, there wasn’t any concept that was too difficult. To work through the ones that I didn’t understand I eliminated answer choices, crossing out the ones that were way too big or way to small or unreasonable. To prepare for the test I went over some of the concepts that we had learned to make sure that I knew how to do them and to be prepared for most of it. Things that I would do differently would be to maybe go to sleep a little earlier because I was really tired and I would probably go over more of the concepts. But over all I feel that I did pretty well.

  6. I think I performed very well; I only got stuck on few problems... I think three to four at the most. For difficulties I can’t quite remember exactly but I know it had to do with fractions. One strategy I used most often was the eliminating answers; I used it on almost every question. Preparing myself I believe I did alright, I just went through everything that I know I would need to pass. I didn’t study as much as I wanted to because I had about five hour rehearsals for theatre Friday night and Saturday afternoon. If there was anything I would have done differently I would have studied more than I did this weekend.

  8. This years TAKS test was not as hard as I expected it to be. Actually aside from a couple of questions, I found the TAKS easier this year. I think this might have been because I used better problem solving strategies such as eliminating answer choices, also I double checked all my calculations. In addition to that, I was able to study and prepare myself for this test. I spent most of Friday night and both Saturday and Sunday studying and reviewing everything that we covered this year. I went through all my notes to make sure I understood everything. I was pretty confident after studying so I don’t think that I would have had to do anything differently, Just maybe get a little bit more rest the night before since I was exhausted this morning.

  9. I believe I performed my math TAKS very good, because I know that I did my best. The most difficult concept for me was the scale factor questions; I forgot entirely how to do those. The problem solving strategy I used that really helped me was eliminating answer choices, because I am a visual learner I got to see how many answers that cannot be correct. The way I prepared myself for the math TAKS was by studying a lot this weekend and reviewing all my notes that I took throughout the school year; and also taking math TAKS from 2006 to get a good look of what will be in the test. I wouldn’t have done anything differently to help me on this test, because I know I reviewed and studied and that I have a pretty good concept of what we learned throughout the school year.

  10. I think I did very well on the taks test I went through the questions slowly and underlined the key words in the questions . And I checked over ever question. One of the hardest questions for me was a hypotenuse question I remberd the equation a2+b2=c2 but it confused me a lot. I did guess and check some of the answer choices were so out of proportion that you knew it wasn’t the right answer. I studied a little bit over the weekend but that is about it. I would of studied more

  11. I think I did okay on the TAKS test, I used guess and check and I eliminated questions to help me get through the test. I studied for this test but I could’ve studied a little bit more. I studied for a couple of hours this weekend, I probably should’ve asked questions about some stuff that I didn’t understand because that would’ve helped me.

  12. I think that I performed well on the TAKS; I think that I passed and that I might get commended if I’m lucky. The most difficult concepts for me were questions with fractions and decimals; I got confused as to how to solve them. I know that a problem strategy that I used was eliminating answers and guess and check. I’m ashamed to say that I forgot about the test until the night before, so I didn’t really study. I think that if I had gone in to tutoring and had studied, I might have known how to work more of the problems out and would’ve gotten more right. I also think that paying more attention in class these past few weeks would have immensely helped me with the TAKS test.

  13. I think I performed well until the end, I just got too tired and cold because I was under the air vent. I think could have actually studied and practiced more but I didn’t and I’m ok with that because I sure I passed. If they allowed us to listen to music on our iPods then that would’ve definitely help me because the air vent was not only cold but it was also loud. I did not use any strategies. I could’ve studied but like I said I didn’t but I don’t think I had to.

  14. At the beginning I think I performed well at the beginning but towards the middle and so on I began to rush and didn’t pay attention to my mistakes. Overall I think I did well but I could have done better. The most difficult concept for me was problems with decimals or fractions that seemed to me where towards the end so I had trouble going through them because my concentration towards the end wasn’t the greatest. At the beginning I eliminated the answers and took my time and towards I used guess and check and rushed through the answers. I think I didn’t prepare myself well because I didn’t take much time to study. I could have taken more time and used my time during the test.

  15. On the math TAKS test I think I performed well, it wasn’t hard at all. For me the most difficult concept for me was the percents and the little of the fractions. I used a lot of problem solving strategies like show all my work from top to bottom, eliminating answer choices guess and check. I studied all my noted from the beginning of school to now and studied all this weekend 1 hour and 30 min a day. Something I could have done differently was work on some problems I have never done or seen and come in to tutoring and get some help from my teachers. But I guess I did pretty well on the test.

  16. I think I performed the TAKS test well, because I knew mostly all the the questions and they were pretty easy. The strategies that I had used was eliminate answers and underline the most important thing the question was asking for. I studied for two days with my mom to get me ready and know mostly everything the TAKS was having. I would apparently do the same thing on the test I think that was tha only way it helped me take the test.

  17. I believe that I performed well on this year’s math TAKS test. I used all of the concepts and problem solving skills I could, I never felt like I didn’t know what the question was asking, nor did I feel like I didn’t understand how to work out a problem. The nth term concepts were confusing to me. I did use eliminating as most often as I could. I studied as often as I could to prepare myself for this test. I think that I did as much as I could to help myself, maybe I could have gotten some more rest the night before!

  18. On this years 8th grade TAKS test I think I did pretty well on it and may have scored around an 80%. There were only one or two questions that were hard for me to understand but the rest of the questions were easy because we went over them during class. There were no questions on the test that we had not gone over before which mad the test a lot more easily. I think the hardest concept for on the test was the scientific notation problems when I had to convert the decimal into scientific notation form. My strategy for the taks test was to use process of elimination and to eliminate the answer choices that were not possible. I studied for the whole weekend for the TKAS test and hopefully all the work I did paid off and that I get a could score. Some things that I could of done for the TAKS test was to go over all my notes in order for me to get a better score on this test

  19. To be honest, I was quite nervous to take the Math TAKS test. However, when I got started I realized that I was a lot more prepared than I thought. Before taking the TAKS test, I made sure I got a good night’s sleep and a big breakfast. This helped me to stay focused and relaxed. As I went through each problem, I made sure to underline or circle any important information. This helped me to stay organized and understand what method I should use to solve each problem. Once I solved the problem, I would go through each answer choice and eliminate the choices I knew were wrong. Although this helped, I still ran into a few problems here and there that were a little hard for me. If I got stuck, I would circle the question number and go back to solve it later. Towards the end of the test, I started getting a little “brain tired” and struggled a little bit more. If I had the chance to do it over again, I would have taken more mental breaks and slowed down a bit, Overall, I think I did okay on the test. I didn’t study over the weekend, but if I would have maybe I would feel more confident about my test. Now I know what to do differently In the future.

  20. I have work riley hard on studying for my Tax test. When I started the test I thought it would take me a little wail so I just tried my very best. Then after I fished it I went back over it and verified my question. When I went back over the hardest part was when I was trying to finger out the work I needed to do, and solving the question. My calculator that I was given riley helped me a lot with all of the entire questions I was given. It helps me check all of my work so I would know the answers. I think sense I have studying for four months I think I did pretty well. If I did well then I might have a chances to get In to New Teck in a high school.

I’m pretty sure that I aced the test like I do every year, but I was unsure about at least three problems. Those three had to do with plotting the points on graphs. Getting (y) switched with (x) and the positives (+) and (-) adding to that mix of confusion. But it was only the crowded lines of numbers that made things difficult. If I had studied at all I would have probably gotten done much quicker. But I didn’t study though I’m sure that a I did my best.

  22. Well I think I did pretty good on the Math TAKS. My most difficult concept was portions. The solving strategy I used to help me solve a problem is I drawled a picture to help me. I prepared myself for the TAKS by going over my notebook to look over things I did not know. I kind of study over the weekend. I could of done different is study more and ask questions if I didn’t know how to do it.
