a) -50 (-800) = (-50 x -1000) + (-50 x 200)
b) -50 + (400 x 32) = (-50 + 400) x (-50 + 32)
c) 12 ÷ (-8 + 4) = (12 ÷ -8) + (12 ÷ 4)
a) -50 (-800) = (-50 x -1000) + (-50 x 200)
ReplyDeleteThe equation above is true it is true because if you add (-1000)+200 it comes out to be -800. Which is the same thing as -50 x (-800).
b) -50 + (400 x 32) = (-50 + 400) x (-50 + 32)
This equation is not true because 400 + 32 doesn’t give you the same answer as 400 x 32.
c) 12 ÷ (-8 + 4) = (12 ÷ -8) + (12 ÷ 4)
This equation is not true because (12/-8) +(12/4)=(1.5) gives you a bigger number than 12/(-8 + 4)= (-3). As you can see the answers are very different.
A: is not true because the sides do not equal the same because you cannot distribute using addition.

C: This is not true because you CANNOT distribute using addition or division therefore the sides would not match up making it an incorrect answer.
Letter A is a true complete number sentence. It is true because -50 is your distributer number. It is outside of the parenthisis. -1000 + 200 will equal -800. Which is the number that is being multiplied on the first side. -50 (-800) = (-50 x -1000) + (-50 x 200) is a true statement.
ReplyDeleteLetter B is a false statement. It is a false statement because if 50 is your distributer then you cannot ADD them to your other numbers SEPRATELY. Then on the other side have you numbers multiplied.
Letter C is also a false statement. It is a false statement because division is not part of the distributive property.
A. A is not correct because the way it is set up it does not have the 800 in it has more so when you do the math you will have more than what you had before because you have more than 800 multiplied.

B is not correct because in the standard form you have the three numbers in it and then they also use it in the expanded form, but if you look closely at it they have the signs backwards instead of the multiplication outside of the parenthesis instead of inside and inside are the addition signs.
C. C is correct because the distributed right from standard to expanded form. Also the signs are perfect they are where they need to be.

A= True. -1000+200=-800, which was the original number in the standard equation. -50 (-800) is the same as saying (-50 X -1000) + (-50 X 200), just using different numbers to get to the answer.

This equation is telling us to add the numbers, and then multiply in the expanded form, and the multiplication should be in parentheses. The answers to the equations do not match each other. The standard problem is equal to 6300 while the “expanded” form is 12,750. These answers clearly do not match with each other!
C= False. This equation, like “B,” is not in the correct form. It is telling us to distribute division, however only multiplication may be distributed. The standard form is equal to -3, while the “expanded” form is 1.5.

Letter a is true because in the standard form it has -50 (800) = 40000 then in the expanded form -50 x -1000 + -50 x 200 will = 40000 so letter a is true. Letter b would not be true because if you solve it out if you do -50 + (400 x 32) = 12750 and if you do the expanded form its 560000 so the letter b is not true. Letter c is not true because if you do 12 divided(-8+4) will equal 3 and if you do the expanded form it will equal 1.5 so letter c is not true.

A. The First number problem is true because the problem was rewritten in proper expanded form.

C) It is not true because -8 + 4 = -3. Then 12 divide by -8 = 1.5, and so 12 divide by 4 = 3. So u add -1.5 + 3 equal 1.50, and so the both side are not equal.
a) is true because you are using multiplacation which can only work when using the distributive property. So when you work both out you get -800.

A: This number sentence is true. Because -50(-800) equals 40,000 and (-50 x -1000) + (-50 x 200) equals 40,000 as well. Not only do they both equal 40,000 they also show the distributive property. It shows the -50 being distribute over from -50(-800) to (-50 × -1000) + (-50 × 200). That is why it is true.

Also they do not show the distributive property. I know this because in 50+(400×32) the 50 is not distributed in the other equation instead it is -50. That’s why it is not true.
C: This number sentence is not true. Because 12 ÷ (-8 + 4) equals -3 and (12 ÷ -8) + (12 ÷ 4) equals 1.5. Just because it does not equal each other it still shows the distributive property. It distributes the 12 to the -8 and 4. That’s is why it is not true.
