THIS IS DUE on FRIDAY 12/3/10Explain how these three situations would change a chip board (regardless of the starting value of the chips on the chip board). EX: "The first situation would cause the chip board to change by..... This would happen becuase....."
a. Adding 7 red chips and 13 black chips
b. Adding 15 red chips and 15 black chips
c. Adding 24 red chips and 17 black chips
The first situation would cause the chip board to change by 6 chips. This would happen because there are 7 red chips which are negative and 13 black chips which are positive. There are more positive chips. You would do 13+-7=6. The second situation would cause the chip board to change nothing because the pairs equal out each other. This would happen because -15+15=0. When you add the same number with different signs you will get zero. The third situation would cause the chip board to change by 7 red chips. This would happen because -24+17=7. There are more red chips. Grace
ReplyDeleteThe first situation would make the red chips go up by 7 and the black chips to go up by 13. This would happen because we are adding the chips not subtracting them. The second situation would make the red chips go up by 15 and also the black chips to go up by 15. This would happen because we are adding the chips not subtracting them. In the third situation we would add 24 red chips and add 17 black chips. This would happen because we are adding the chips not subtracting them.
ReplyDeleteThe first situation would cause the chip board to change by +6 chips. This would happen because when 7 red chips make zero pairs with 7 of the black chips, which would leave 6 black chips left. 13+ (-7) = +6. The second situation would cause the board to change by 0 chips. This would happen because 15 red chips would make zero pairs with 15 black, and would leave the value of 0. 15 + (-15) = 0. The third situation would cause the chip board to change by 7 red chips. This would happen because 17 black chips make zero pairs with 17 of the red chips, which leave the value of -7 (7 red chips). -24 + 7= -7.
ReplyDeleteThe first situation would cause the chip board to change by 6 because when you add 7 red chips (negative) and 13 black chips (positive) you would get positive six so basically you could take away the negative and do 13-7=6 and you would take the larger numbers sign in this case positive. The second situation would cause the chip board to change by 0 because the zero pairs of -15 & 15 is the ending value of zero. The third situation would cause the chip board to change by 7 acutually -7 because the larger number (24) is negative so it would be -7 I got this by doing 24-17=7 and therefore it has to be a -7. Rachel J.
ReplyDeleteIn the first situation it would cause to chip board to change by 6. This would happen because you are adding 7 red and 13 black and when you add them it becomes 6. (-7+13=6) The second situation it would cause the chip not to change at all because if you add 15 red and 15 black you would get a total of zero.(-15+15=0). The third situation it would change it by 7. This would happen because -24+17=-7. Nathan Degrado
ReplyDeleteThe first situation would cause the chip board to change by making the total become more positive. This would happen because there are more positive chips being put in the situation than there are negative.
ReplyDeleteThe second situation would cause the chip board to change by zero. This would happen because there is the same amount of chips both positive and negative these are also known as zero pairs.
The third situation would cause the chip board to change by making the total more negative. This would happen because there are more negative chips being put in the situation than there are positive chips.

ReplyDeleteA) Having 7 red chips and 13 black chips will change a chip board by adding 6 to it. This is because negative 7 plus positive 13 is a positive 6.
B) Having negative 15 and positive 15 will change a chiip board by adding 0. This is because negative 15 and positive 15 are opposites, they make zero pairs.
C) Having 24 red chips and 17 black chips will change a chip board by adding negative 7. This is because negative 24 plus a positive 17 will give you a negative 7.
The first situation would cause the chip board to change by 6. This would happen because when you take away the zero pairs, which is the 7 negative red chips and the 7 positive black chips, the ending value is 6 black chips. (13 + -7 =6) The second situation would cause the chip board to change by 0. This would happen because a negative and a positive cancel out each other, this is called zero pairs. So 15 negative red chips and 15 positive black chips is like saying, (-15 + 15 =0). The third situation would cause the chip board to change by 7 red chips. This would happen because (-24 + 17 = -7). ReplyDeleteFor letter A. the answer would be positive six because in these situations the red markers on the board are negative and the black markers are positive. Since there are more positive chips than negative the answer will have to be positive and once you find all of the zero pairs you should be left with positive six. For letter B.you would have the answer of just zero. This is because the positive and negative 15 are zero pairs so they cancel each other out in this situation. Finally letter C. the answer would be negative seven. In this problem there are more negative markers than positive so the answer must be negative, then after you find all of the zero pairs in the problem you are left with seven red markers.
ReplyDeleteThe first situation would cause the chip board to change by 6. This would happen because you have to make zero pairs and then you would have 6 black chips left over and that makes positive six.
ReplyDeleteThe second situation would cause the chip board to change by nothing. There are even amount of both chips. So when you make zero pairs you have no chips left over.
The last situation would cause the chip board to change by negative 7. This would happen because there are more red chips than black chips, so once you have all the zero pairs you are left with a negative number.
The first situation would cause the chip board to change by positive 6. This would happen because adding a negative 7 plus a positive 13 will make a positive because the answer will always take the bigger numbers sign. The second situation would cause the chip board to change by 0. This is because since the two numbers are negative 15 and positive 15 they are zero pairs (opposites) so that means they cancel each other out. The third situation would cause the chip board to change by negative 7. This would happen because adding a negative 24 and a positive 17 will make a negative because the answer will always take the bigger numbers sign.

A.) The situation on the chip board would change because the total number would be a positive so 13 minus 7 equals 6 it takes the sign of the greater absolute number.
ReplyDeleteB.) The two numbers added are the same so the total would be zero cause it’s a zero pair or opposites.
C.) On this last one the red chips are greater in number so the grand total would be a negative number. Use the sign of the greater absolute value -24-17= -7.
For problem A they added 7 red chips (negative) and there are a total of 13 black chips (positives). The problem would be 13+-7=6 (positive). Problem b they added 15 red chips and 15 black chips it would look like 15+-15=0. IT equals 0 because they are the same amount and when you zero pair it is 0. Problem c added 24 red chips and 17 black chips. -24+17= -7.
ReplyDeleteThis would cause the chip board to change by 6, because you the 7 red chips are negative and the 13 black are positive so you would add 13+(-7)=6. In the next situation you would have to add –15+15 which equals 0, because they are opposites. So the chip board would change by 0. The next situation is -24 + 17 that equals 7. The chip board would change by 7.
ReplyDeleteThis first situation would change by taking away 6 chips.this ocurs because when u add the negative 7 to the possitive 13 they cross eachother out. -7 + 13=6
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd problem would not change because possitive 15 and negative 15 are oppisite and they both wipe eachother out. -15+15=0
The 3rd situation would change by 7 because -24-17=-7
The first situation would cause the chip board to change by six chips. This would happen because there are only seven red chips compared to thirteen black. So since there are more blacks (positives) the board has to be a positive number, and once you find all of the zero pairs there are six blacks left. The second situation would cause the chip board to change to a value of 0. The board would take the value of zero because there are an even amount of both red and black chips so they both bounce out each other (create zero pairs) leaving zero left. So for the last situation the chip board would change with a negative effect because there are more red chips than black chips and when the red and black chips pair up, there will be seven reds left, which means negative seven left. So the board will change by negative seven.

The first situation would be that if there are 7 red chips and 13 black chips that you would be left with 6 black chips left because 7 red chips would cancel out 7 black chips. So your value would be 6 black chips. The second situation is that if you have 15 black and red chips they would cancel each other out and leave with zero. The last situation is 24 red chips and 17 black chips, like the first one you would take away 17 black chips from 17 black chips and your left with 7 red chips.
ReplyDeleteThe first situation would cause the chip board to change by 6. This would happen because, 7 red chips and 7 black chips (of the 13 black chips) make zero pairs together, it is left with a total of 6 chips (13 + -7 =6). In the second situation, -15++15=0. The answer is 0 because -15 and +15 zero paired equals this. When you have two numbers that are opposites, it equals zero. Lastly, in the third situation -24++17=-7. When you keep, change, change, the adding is changed to subtraction and the positive is switched to a negative. So, the answer has to be a negative. The difference between the two numbers is 7; this shows that the answer is -7.
ReplyDeleteThe first situation would cause the chip board to change by 6. This would happen because we have 7 red chips which are negative, while we also have 13 black chips which are positive. The answer would be a positive number because after eliminating the zero pairs there would be only 6 black chips left. You would do -7+13=6. On the second situation would cause the chip board not to change anything because the 15 red chips and 15 black chips are zero pairs and equal out to each other. The third situation would cause the chip to change by 7. This would happen because there are 24 red chips and 17 black chips and after eliminating the pairs, you end up with -7 because 24+-17=7.

The first situation would cause the chip board to change by adding 7 red chips and 13 black which would later go on to be an answer of 6 black chips left. This would happen because once you add the 7 red chips and 13 black chips to the chip board, then you must find your zero pairs and cancel them out. When you complete this step, you get an answer of 6 black chips left. The second situation would cause the chip board to change by adding 15 red chips and 15 black chips which would later go on to be and answer of 0. This would happen because you have to cancel out all of your zero pairs. The numbers in this problem are called opposites because they are the same number but different signs. In the end the answer to the problem is 0. The third situation would cause the chip board to change by adding 24 red chips and 17 black chips which would later go on to be an answer of 7 red chips left. This would happen because once you cancel all the zero pairs out, you must count how many chips you have left and it shout leave you with 7 red chips.

In situation A you would be effected by 6 or 6 black chips, because -7+13=6.In situation B you wouldn't be effected by any chips because they even eachother out -15+15=0. In situation C you be effected by -7 or 7 red chips because -24+17=-7.
